I am an artist and an independent researcher. I live and work in Bengaluru, India. The broad framework of my research revolves around image based practices. Within that I am interested in representative practices (photography, film, social media); the subject as photographer (citizen journalism, participatory methodologies), truth and representation (War photography) and intersectional analyses (through gender/caste/class/language). I am currently researching on protest/social movements and methodologies used in political organising. I am also starting to write on art practices in India and finding my bearing with that. My research usually finds an audience in academic/conference spaces. I also freelance as a photography tutor/facilitator. The teaching work I have enjoyed most has been with using participatory methodologies (my work with Photovoice/Panos London) primarily because subjects get to tell the stories they want to tell and for me that as a political tool is far more useful.
